Situated just a few doors away from the luxurious diamond walk in Sandton City, GMT Africa, the official agent for Swiss watch giant Patek Philippe has opened its first stand alone boutique in Southern Africa.
Celebrating this milestone as well as the brands presence on South African soil for 20 years, watch enthusiasts, industry leaders and friends of the brand were invited to an exclusive VIP, by invite only, cocktail evening.
Guests were welcomed by the enchanting sounds of a live band, where champagne was served and the who’s who of the South African watch scene got to rub shoulders. The store which is the epitome of understated luxury, from the beautiful wood panelling of the display counters with the Patek Philippe logo etched into it to the grand chandelier that engulfs the center of the store, every tiny detail of this magnificent store screams luxury, and why shouldn’t it?
When the name Patek Philippe is associated with something, one can expect nothing but the best, and Co-owners Christina Tan and Angelina Tan of GMT Africa provided just that. With an array of scrumptious canapé’s which were served throughout the night, and special guests of honor, Vice President of sales at Patek Philippe, Yves Cavadini and Olivier Mestre who had graced us with their presence.
Whilst many mingled, we took the opportunity to play with some “rare” toys, two of which stole the show and our hearts. Not only because they are ultra rare and we might never see these models in a store display again, but also because both celebrate an Anniversary of their own. Patek Philippe’s Calatrava ‘Squelette’, which celebrates 40 years of Patek Philippe’s automatic calibre 240 movement in a stunning open worked skeletonized dial and the Patek Philippe Nautilus 40th Anniversary which were undoubtedly the most awaited timepieces by Patek collectors last year.
As this splendid night came to a close and having to leave all the good things behind, Patek Philippe’s famous slogan comes to mind, ” you never truly own it, you merely look after it for the next generation”.
From the team at Watch Maniac, we would like to congratulate GMT Africa on their Boutique which certainly gives new meaning to Sandton being the richest square mile in Africa.
